Why is the term 'nude' an automatic code for white?

This!
Why is the term 'nude' an automatic code for white?
What an AWESOME video!

Cherelle Barrow Who tapped on the video just to read the comments and knew you were going to come across a black and white issue unrelated to what the video is trying to portray?!!!

Brittany Hicks Me! And this will probably sound racist against white people, but I knew it would be white people saying things like "get over it" or "buy something brown", which is one of the stupidest comments I have ever read!

Cherelle Barrow Exactly, it is getting real old and ignorant when people can't focus on the topic at hand. We get it! We will always be a different color of race but why make it an issue when it doesn't call for one....

Ashley Mae Coffee Seriously I'm so over buzzfeed for posting videos like this. It causes a total shit storm in the comments. People are so mean. All races. Not just one or the other. Can't we all just get along?!

What Nude Fashion Looks Like On Black Women

Azali Cyril I think it's brilliant and inspiring what buzzfeed is doing by posting these videos. These are some of the things Black people (so many other people as well) have to deal with on a regular basis and it has gone unacknowledged for so long that we have begun to get use to feeling invisible or unimportant. I totally understand where you're coming from about people being mean because I read some of the other comments and their replies. A lot of them were not so patient, kind, or necessary, BUT it is still important for these issues to be brought up anyway. Ignore the people attacking you on social media. They don't know a thing about you. But big-ups to buzzfeed, because I'm starting to feel seen and respected in this country as an African American.

I like that buzzfeed is posting these, what I don't like is the racist comments from whites towards blacks or the attitude blacks are giving whites who are not even saying anything wrong (trust me there are TONS that are saying shitty things). I saw a black girl and a mexican girl really being hateful to a pale white girl who said she hates the "nude" standard too because it doesn't match her skin either and that it should be called beige… their response was "get a tan". Black or white or yellow or purple or WHATEVER color, why does it have to be this way? Why is it that the same thing can be said by different people but it means something different depending on your skin color? Thats bullshit.

Laura Gooch
I love buzzfeed... I love seeing videos from other viewpoints. Whether it is just men, just women, Asian, black... It doesn't matter, the videos tend to be well done. I feel like heritage is important.

But yeah... I'm the comments get old. I looked, expecting a few stupid people... But wow. I am so so tired of the color of our skin being made an issue. I'm living in Alabama right now... It's disturbing in some areas. Not just the racism toward minorities... But the contempt it breeds as well. I miss being in the city further west and being able to make friends with someone without being looked at like I sat down at the wrong lunch table.

So many of these comments were hurtful and focusing on tearing each other down. I'm pale, I'd give a milk bottle a run for it's money... Darn sure can't tan enough to match the varying shades of nude... But I'm not silly enough to not realize that it's more of an issue for darker skinned ethnicities, and this video wasn't about me. Heck, it's buzzfeed... In another week they might address the fact that nude actually doesn't match anyone.

I saw someone comment about how white people wouldn't "get it" until we were beaten, raped, and had our religion and culture ripped from us like their ancestors. I wanted to raise my hand and say, "well... Actually, I'm Irish... And yeah, that happened to my family too. It's all I heard about as a young child." It's horrible.

And unrelated, Cherelle... I like your headband, super cute.

Cherelle Barrow
Lol, thank you. Just wish people would adapt to change. I understand our backgrounds vary from different strokes but we are living in a free world. Our society is ripped from past, present and future. Brainwashed, scorn, and dismantled from true existence. Every opportunity that I see something about racism I loose interest and yes, even what has been going on lately regarding cops and everything else. Just tired real tired....

Alex Morgenstern We should stop selling "nude" clothing because it matches NOBODY!! Why must we continue to make this an "us vs them" situation instead of saying, "Hey fashion industry: include ALL OF US!!"

Brittany Ackerson Me, though I wished I hadn't. These comments make my head hurt. It's not even worth debating about. It's just underwear.

Amanda Dawley Hahahahahahah omg... I'm mean really. Wtf people. Cherelle, I wish I could like your comment more than once. This is so damn stupid. We need "nude" to actually mean "nude" and not "let's all look the other way when people with different skin tones try it on then act like we have no idea what's wrong". It's 2015. How is this not a normal thing for all stores to sell things for all skin types?

Amanda Dawley I say we need more videos. This is something I had no idea was a problem and it sure as hell makes me wonder what else I don't know about. Nobody should have to "deal with it". Cause a bit of a shit storm! Turn some heads! In a smart way like this, buzz feed relating it in a way that's not vicious but stern in its message. We need more! Ruffle some feathers!

Megan Sandy Lol I actually watched the video, because when I worked in retail (a long ass time ago), I specifically remember in the intimates section, nude was for white people. That's not right to me, so I found this video more eye opening than anything! And some people's comments do not belong on this, but that's what happens! It's the internet it happens all the time sadly.

KayJay Joseph Most definitely me... it happens on everything like this posted to the internet. Gives me a fucking headache.
Most white people just can't deal with it when everything's not about them. Gets on my nerves.

Wendy Reithel-Rosenbaum Stop it!!!! Nude is another color for blush. It's been used for years. There is nothing new. If it don't work for you move on!!!

Mecca Lane Wait, "having the color of a white person's skin"... Anyone have a young impressionable five year old like mine? Imagine if she were perusing the dictionary and came across this definition? What about HER self esteem? Her idea of what beauty is? I bet you've never had to stitch your kids self esteem together behind closed doors for these reasons... Because her beauty is not represented.
