Merry Christmas to you and yours! |
As I type this, I'm still in a slight state of shock - 2016 is almost a wrap. With only 8 more days before we ring in the new year, there's prooooobably not enough time to read that stack of 12 books, or drop 20 pounds. But - 8 days is plenty enough time to sleigh slay the natural way this holiday season. From Christmas parties and dinner with the fam to NYE with bae, these 5 styles will definitely turn heads and get you the 'naturalista nod' of approval in public.
(Sidebar: you know the naturalista nod. It's that moment out in public when you make eye contact with another natural from afar, and simultaneously - without knowing each other or making a sound - acknowledge and show love.)
That leave-in trio tho! |
To bring this style series to life, I had the amazing opportunity to work with a veteran brand in the natural hair community - Camille Rose Naturals. All of the looks below were crafted using an assortment of Camille Rose Naturals products. Product and style details follow each style photo. And at the end you'll be able to catch the downloadable style menu! Feel free to Pin it, Gram it, share it in your Facebook groups (just don't talk too bad about me - lol). Enjoy!
Healthy Blowout
Product Pairing: Sweet Ginger Cleansing Rinse + Moroccan Pear Conditioning Custard
That shine tho. |
Details: A good shampoo and deep conditioning are essential for every blowout in order to prevent heat damage. I shampooed twice with Sweet Ginger Cleansing Rinse to thoroughly remove oils, debris, and product buildup from my hair and scalp - which prevents these left behind particles from burning onto the hair and causing heat damage during the blow drying process. Following my shampoo, I deep conditioned with the Moroccan Pear Conditioning Custard for 30 minutes under my hooded dryer. By infusing my hair with the proper amounts of hydration, I am able to ward off heat damage and achieve my healthiest blowout in a looooong time.
Dynamic Cleansing + Conditioning Duo! |
To blow out my hair, I used my blow dryer with no attachment, and this paddle brush, working in small sections. To maintain my blowout over the course of the next several days, I added a few drops of Herbal Tea Leave-In to my hair from root to ends.
Cool Curlhawk
Product Pairing: Aloe Whipped Butter Gel + Curl Maker
The perfect style to delay wash day! |
Details: The curlhawk is a style best achieved on 2nd or 3rd day hair. My curls were previously styled with Aloe Whipped Butter Gel and Curl Maker. I added a little more Aloe Whipped Butter Gel to prime my hair for styling. Separating my hair into three sections (back, center, front), I applied a small amount of Curl Maker to the sides, brushed the hair down gently, and secured it with bobby pins. I worked from back to front in styling and securing - leaving the top section out to twist and pomp, then holding it in place with bobby pins. The perfect style to slay when you don't want to wash your hair yet!
Styles. On. Fleek. With these two! |
Totally Twisted Side-Swept 'Do
Product Pairing: Aloe Whipped Butter Gel + Herbal Leave-In
A little classy. A little curly. |
Details: Another style perfectly primed for 2nd, 3rd, 4th - or even 5th day hair! First, I created a side part and sectioned off the hair to the left of the part, down to my ear. I put the rest of my hair in a scrunchie to keep it out of the way. Then, I added a few drops of Herbal Leave-In to the section for smoothness and shine. Parting diagonally though the section, I created two flat twists in opposite directions, then looped them around each other, securing loose ends with bobby pins. Next, I released the rest of my hair from the scrunchie, applied more Herbal Leave-In, and Aloe Whipped Butter Gel on my edges, brushing and smoothing around my head to one side, securing pieces along the way with bobby pins. Once sideswept, I twisted the top of the hair down, secured with more bobby pins, and fluffed.
Softness. Style. Shine. |
Funky Flexi Rod Set
Product Pairing: Honey Leave-In + Aloe Whipped Butter Gel
Perfect for holiday parties. |
Details: This style is my absolute favorite - because it looks like it took tons of time - but in reality it was super easy to pull off. Plus, Between rod setting and drying time, it took me only an hour and 5 minutes! Yep! You read that right! 65 minutes and I was out the door.
Honey + Aloe works like a charm! |
This style works best on old, stretched hair like a blowout, braidout, twistout, or wash and go. I simply applied the Honey Leave-In lightly (no need to be heavy-handed!) to my hair, detangled with a wide tooth comb, and followed up with Aloe Whipped Butter Gel. I installed the orange flexi rods throughout my hair, and sat under the dryer for 45 minutes. Because my hair was not soaking wet and saturated in product, I was able to achieve a completed style in such a short amount of time. After unraveling the flexi rods, I parted a section on the side of my head, and created 4 bantu knots. Fluff, fluff, and out the door! I'll be sharing the full details on this style in my next post!
Winter Wash n' Go
Product Pairing: Latte Leave-In + Curl Maker
A year-round staple perfect for the holidays too! |
Details: Many naturalistas skip the wash and go in the winter months, because it can be impossible to dry curls in cold air - and the chilly temps rob natural hair of precious moisture. You can put those worries away, because with this combination from Camille Rose Naturals, curls are moisturized and defined for days on end. To achieve this wash and go, I applied the Latte Leave-In in sections to soaking wet hair. After my hair was thoroughly coated (don't overdo it!), I applied Curl Maker using the rake and smooth method to achieve long-lasting definition and shine!
Definition for days! |
