Style Obsession // MonoChrome.

One style trend that I could never get into was matching sets.  For some reason, I hated the idea of wearing a printed top and matching bottom.  I thought that matching from head to toe was tacky, gaudy, and hard to execute.

But, recently opinion has shifted. Because I've fallen in love with the newer, more modern version of matching sets.  It turns out that I didn't hate the idea of wearing separates that coordinate as long as it's done in with style.
In my opinion, the monochrome look is a classic, more elevated version of matching sets. Traditionally, the term monochrome applies to outfits that are in the black, white or grey family. But for the purposes of this article, I'm strictly referring to pairing pieces that are similar in color.   The look is sleek, feminine, easy to pull off.   To me, the monochrome look is the easiest way to dress up basic pieces without having to rely on various accessories.

Another thing I love about this look is that you don't have to rush out and purchase a bunch of new pieces in order to pull it off.  It's highly likely that you already have a few items that you can pair to create a cohesive look.

Obviously, wearing neutrals together creates a beautiful color scheme, but let's not box ourselves into one shade range. I've seen monochrome outfits that were beautifully executed with yellows, blues, and other primary colors.  With this look, there are few rules. You don't have to match each color exactly to pull off this look.  As a matter of fact, wearing various shades of the same shade range adds a little bit of depth and make the outfit a bit more interesting.  Experiment with monochrome for yourself and transform pieces that you've had for years into a modern, new look.
