As I'm typing this article, I'm engaging in a somewhat unfamiliar experience. Wearing a sheet mask on a week day. It's all a part of my new healthy skin experiment. Days ago, I treated myself to a 90 minute massage as a part of my feel good routine. After the session was over, the masseuse began to ask a series of skin related questions.
One observation she shared was that my skin appeared dehydrated. Truthfully, I wasn't shocked by the news. I have to admit that I haven't been as diligent as I should be with my daily skin routine. Plus, I started applying retin A at night and that stuff always dries out my skin. She recommended some corrective actions but I knew exactly what I needed to do.
Coincidently, while browsing the net, I learned that some skin care fanatics were actually adding sheet masks to their daily skin ritual as a part of a 7 day challenge. One girl even went as far as to use 2 sheet masks a day for a week! Another experimenter claimed that her newly hydrated skin didn't produce as much oil during the challenge.
From the feedback I've read online, you have to be intentional with the type of mask you select. Sheet masks come in all sorts of varieties that treat pretty much any concern you have. Don't just slap on any old sheet mask just for the heck of it. Choose with intention. My masks of choice will provide hydrating, brightening and anti-aging benefits.
A secondary benefit to this beauty experiment is how amazing the experience feels. Some commented that the daily sheet mask ritual was a moment in their hectic day where they were truly doing something for themselves. It's the perfect opportunity to pour you some beauty tea, break out your journal and write down your heart's desires.
The great news is that, based on what I've read, no one's skin went haywire from the regular sheet mask usage. That was my biggest concern but it doesn't seem likely to happen.
I can't believe it took me so long to jump on this bandwagon. My skin loved the last sheet mask experience so I'm hoping for even more amazing results over the next few days. When my skin is well hydrated, that's when it glows the most. Even if I don't complete a full 7 days, I know for a fact that adding sheet masks to my routine 2-4 times a week will make my skin much happier.
