With 2020 being just around the corner, I'm guessing that a lot of us have some big goals set for the year (and decade) to come. A lot of my friends have intentions of launching a successful business in the near future. Others want to take their current results to the next level.
I'm here to share a road map that will almost guarantee successful results in any endeavor. If you follow this advice, you'll greatly increase your chances of achieving great outcomes.
Every great idea has its beginnings in our minds. The idea excites us and we tell others about it. Then we get heavy into brainstorming and research. There's nothing wrong with laying the groundwork but it slows down the timeline of actually launching your idea. Launching something perfect is almost impossible. You should have no expectation of putting something perfect out into the world. The real expectation you should have is to get your idea out there then tweak it consistently until it evolves into something great.
I'm constantly tweaking my projects. I've learned that putting something out into the world is the first of many steps to come. If I don't consistently improve on my creations, then they'll die. Have you launched something new but haven't experienced the type of results from it that you expected? It's because the work isn't finished yet....it just began. You need to constantly improve on what you're doing to make it greater. That's the world we live in. If you haven't launched yet because you're trying to perfect it, my advice is to give yourself a deadline, launch, then immediately start improving on your project on a consistent basis and long-term.
The other day I watched a YouTube video from Ryan Serhant. He's an uber-successful real estate broker from the show Million Dollar Listings New York. He talked about how the secret of his success is how much he loves the work involved with being in Real Estate. Showing houses is cool but, but there's a lot of behind the scenes work that isn't seen on the show. Most people hate the repetative work associated with the results they want. He loves it!
With everything you want to experience, there's a certain amount of work necessary to achieve it. Do you want to be a wealthy entrepreneur? Consider how many self-made millionaires worked long days to get to where they are. If you're thinking about starting a weight loss journey or want to launch a side hustle, be focused on the work involved, not just the possible outcome. One thing I'd like to focus on in the new year is falling in love with "the work" that supports my ideal results.
When I left corporate America, I had this desire to work less and enjoy my time. Thankfully, I do work much less than before but I'm also limiting my progress at the same time. I'd love to alter my thinking about doing the necessary work required day in and day out. Instead of seeing it as something dreadful, I want to fall in love with the process and see it as a means to get me to where I want to go.
As we do the mundane work, on a daily basis, we start to activate an interesting dynamic called the compound effect. All of our previous efforts become the foundation for something great. Before we know it, something magical happens..... it's called the tipping point. When a series of small actions combine together, over time, to create a massive, important change, you have reached the tipping point. From that point on, your results explode and you get to enjoy all the fruits of your labor.
I've experienced this on a small scale with this blog. I've written here for years. Because I don't do any sponsored posts, this blog is like a labor of love. I wrote articles for years building an audience slowly, then one day, my blog traffic seemed to skyrocket. I can actually look at my blog analytics and see exactly when the tipping point occurred. What did I do to create that result? Not much really, I did the work (wrote articles) day in and day out. Suddenly, my blog traffic tripled. One thing I've been consistent with is tweaking the look and feel of the blog. I'm embarrassed by how the blog looked when it first launched...but that's ok because it needed to be launched. Once it was published, I could focus on making it better.
If you're launching something into the world in 2020. Launch it. Then don't expect sales/income right away. Expect to start the process of working and improving on it regularly until it grows bigger and bigger with each passing day.
Do the work.
