How to Tap Into Your Potential Every Single Day.

Ismail oubarka | 8:46 AM
It's been said that we only utilize 10% of our mental potential.  One of the reasons why I loved Limitless so much is because it explored the idea of what happens when we access the remaining 90%.  Personal development books are focused on helping us to unlock our "unlimited potential."

I'm all for the idea of opening the doorway that unleashes our infinite potential, but I find it sometimes hard to sustain operating at max output for long periods of time.  Instead, I'd like to play with the idea of tapping into our potential instead.   Think of your unlimited potential as an extremely large sum of money.  Instead of trying to blow it all at once, maybe we find a way to access large portions of it on a daily basis.

Wouldn't that be awesome?

What if we could create a ritual that brings out the best in us on a very regular basis?  That's exactly what I'm currently working on.  My aim is to create a series of actions that support the achievement of the exact outcomes I want to experience.

I want every day to be a great day.  And I want to end each day with a feeling of satisfaction of having tapped into the potential that exists.

tap into (something)

To access some large, abundant, or powerful resource.

Again, imagine your potential being a large reserve of money in an account.  You can access it whenever you want, but you have to take a few series of steps to do so.  You have to go to the bank, fill out a withdrawal slip,  present your id, etc.  You can't just snap your fingers and have the money appear magically.

I think that we sometimes expect to perform at our greatest levels without first executing a series of steps to get there.  We just kinda wish for an ideal outcome and hope it'll magically appear.

I want to tap into my potential every day. This doesn't mean that I'll operate at my full potential daily, but as long as I access some of it on a daily basis, the results will compound and will be lifechanging.

What does this look like in practice?

I've always been fascinated by the idea of improving by 1% every day.  The theory is that if we improve by only a small margin on a regular basis, we'll make huge strides in our current circumstances.  How do we do this?  The first step is to define what improvement looks like. For instance, a person who chooses to exercise for 15-30 minutes daily has made a 1% improvement from their typical sedentary lifestyle.  They are now tapping into the potential of having a fitter, healthier body.

Years ago, I decided to dedicate my lunch breaks towards building my abundance mindset and brainstorming ways to build my non-paycheck related income.  Because I made this a consistent habit, I was implementing a 1% improvement activity.  Over time, I began to completely buy into the idea of making a living that wasn't supported by an employer.  The results of that daily practice is undeniable.

Currently, I have multiple opportunities where I can implement the practice of 1% improvements to my daily life.

For instance:

  1. If I wake up between the hours of 4:00-5:00 am my productivity for the day increases.  I can work on projects earlier without distractions.
  2. Meditating for 20 minutes a day maximize my focus and helps me minimize distractions and taps in my ability to focus single-mindedly.
  3. Making sure that I'm in a good vibrational state before working is a 1% improvement activity.
The list of my 1% improvement activities is much longer, but you get the point. Just a few simple tweaks could alter the direction of where I'm currently heading.  Another approach to this strategy is to create a big goal outcome then work backward

If someone wanted to earn a 6 figure income this year but currently earns half of that, they can jot down a list of all the actions they can take that will get them to their desired goal.  A friend of mine told me that she earned a couple million dollars last year.  This was super inspiring.  If I wanted to experience a similar goal, I could write down a list of everything I can do that will improve the results of my current sales.   From there, I keep tweaking my actions and making minor course corrections until I reach my destination.

Tapping into your potential is like digging a tunnel from one place to another (a little at a time).   The work you're doing doesn't seem like much but it brings you a little closer to the other side with each passing day.  Soon, your goal will be within arm's reach.

At the end of 2019, a bunch of people shared their year in review on their IG stories.  Several of the people I followed had phenomenal years.  When I reflected on their results, I saw a clear connection between the work they put in daily and the results experienced for the year.  On a consistent basis, they took new actions, operated outside of their comfort zone, and chipped away at their fears.

Pretty much any goal we want to achieve is accessible. This method of (daily) tapping into your potential will provide us direct access to exactly what we want.
