The closer we get to summer, the more we begin to think about how to shed those extra pounds from the holidays. Losing weight can be frustrating sometimes, even when you feel like you're doing everything right, sometimes the weight just seems to stay put. Well, today I bring you some encouraging news.
I recently learned of a weight-loss theory that could help us stay motivated through our journey to a leaner body.
There were times when I felt like I was taking the right steps when it comes to losing weight, but I didn't see the changes in real-time. I know it takes a while for the body to adjust to lifestyle changes but it's still discouraging when your body seems to be holding on the weight for dear life. Discouragement is dangerous cause it gives us an excuse to go back to our old ways. Then the weight comes right back on with a vengeance.
I'm here to share a theory on why this might happen. Why our weight seems to remain steady while we do everything in our power to burn fat. Understanding this theory is the key that unlocks the key to long-term fat loss.
Once I knew the existence of the Whoosh Effect Fat Loss Theory, I knew that things would never be the same.
Basically, the Whoosh Effect Theory states that as our fat cells start to lose volume (via fat loss) instead of shrinking right away, our cells use water to fill up some of the void. They use water to take up space while they wait for more fat reserves to return. While the cells are filled with water, we get a false illusion that we aren't losing weight. If we aren't careful, we start to overindulge again and those fat cells are primed and ready to reabsorb the excess.
On the other hand, if we continue to eat healthy and burn more energy than we consume, those fat cells eventually deplete as they release the stored water. Some speculate that those cells will be removed from the body through our body's normal functions. Most people who lose a considerable amount of weight are able to "empty" their fat cells completely.
Another interesting aspect of the Whoosh theory is how it explains that sudden weight loss that sometimes happens after a cheat day. I don't know if any of you have experienced this before but I've had times when I ate reasonably all week, barely lost any weight then I have a fatty meal and the weight seems to magically come off.
Whoosh theorist say that when your bodies are suddenly reintroduced to excess fat (after being deprived for a while) the cells suddenly decide to release the water they've been holding on to in hopes that they'll backfill it with fat. One fatty meal isn't enough to create enough excess fat for storage so you lose the water weight and suddenly you appear much leaner.
If this Whoosh Effect theory is true, this means that eating well and exercising could cause fat loss that we don't notice right away. Your body might not seem to get smaller right away because of water weight. This piece of information is crucial for me because it'll help me to stay on the course longer knowing that fat loss is indeed happening behind the scenes. I'll continue to drink water as normal but will encourage my body to shed excess water by eating a high-carb meal once in a while. I could also enjoy a few sauna sessions a week or add more lemon water to my daily routine.
It's good to know that weight loss is probably happening behind the scenes, we just aren't seeing it. There's no better feeling in the world than experiencing the leaner body you worked hard for after the excess water is gone.
